Entering a new market: define the compliance route first

On this page
Describe the product fully
Before commissioning tests, document the product family, intended use, environment, critical specifications, power or wireless functions and destination markets. Several regulatory attributes may apply to one product. Identify the manufacturer, importer and any required local responsible party.
Distinguish the regulatory outcomes
CE marking indicates conformity under applicable EU legislation; there is no single universal CE certificate for every product. Whether a notified body is involved depends on the relevant legislation and product.
FDA establishment registration or product listing does not itself mean product approval. Applicable submission and market-entry requirements depend on the product category. Certification, declaration, type approval and self-certification in other markets must also be assessed individually.
Create a route map
Record product variants, applicable requirements, conformity-assessment steps, technical evidence, responsible parties and change controls. Review sample representativeness and documentation before formal testing.
Maintain links between models, configurations, reports, critical components, labels and instructions. Reassess design or supplier changes rather than assuming the original evidence covers them automatically.
Consultants can help organize requirements and evidence; outcomes are determined under the relevant regulatory system.
